 Upvc lock handles

Upvc lock handles come in various sizes styles and operations. Some locks are lever / lever or lever / pad. So the lock system determins the handle type. If a locksmith listed on The Locksmith Directory cannot locate your handles please contact us on the help line. Replacement handles can be brass white or satin chrome in finish.

 Changing a door lock cylinder

To remove a cylinder on a Upvc door lock is normally done by removing the cylinder fixing screw on the edge of the door inline with the bottom of the cylinder. Inserting the key and turning the key 5 to or 5 past the hour and with a little pressure on the lock cylinder, you will now see the cylinder slowly sliding out of the lock case. Measure the cylinder length outside to the fixing hole on both sides, these are normally different ie: 45mm x 55mm.

Visit your local locksmith and purchase your replacement cylinder.

To check your upvc door lock is working properly open the door and operate the lock system. If it works smoothly as when to door is shut, it may be ok. If however the lock system is hard to operate and needs too firm a lift on the handles to allow the cylinder key to turn it is in need of urgent attention. A common fault with a upvc door lock is the cylinder clutch slipping and therefore not allowing the key to be removed unless the lock is unlocked. The cylinder can be re-set but it is not recommended. A replacement cylinder can be as little as £20.00. Its a good idea to purchase a new cylinder with keys.
